About the Festival

The purpose of this event is to:

bring people from varying ethnic backgrounds to display their traditions through performing and visual arts, ethnic foods and attire
give people permission to come forward and be proud of their heritage in a fun and safe environment
pass these traditions onto the next generations
demonstrate our commonalities and differences, but to also learn and respect one another

We invite people from all cultures to share their roots, heritage and traditions and to pass these values onto future generations.

Through this festival we experience and educate our community our commonalities and differences. We do this through performing arts, music, dance, song, ethnic foods, visual arts and business marketplaces.

Our festival coordinator, sponsors and volunteers cumulatively make this successful event possible.

Our History

The festival began in 2001 as a fundraiser for St. Joseph's parish in Langley, BC. The first year we were delighted with approximately 1,500 attendees. The following four years the attendance grew each year from 1,500 to 2,500, 2,500 to 3,500 and 4,000 respectively.

The last two years, this festival has become a true community event. Both International Foods and the International Marketplace were represented by varying countries each year and grew from six to twenty vendors. By our fifth year, the Festival had approximately twenty countries represented.

Services Offered

The main service provided by our Society is to promote the acceptance of "Multiculturalism" in our community and neighbours. The fact of celebrating the Internationalism of our communities with the well known "Canadian Way" is one step closer to a full integration of our Society. All the events that we present at the Festival have the same objective: they have to have an International flavour and a clear message of the integration of our Multiculturalism Society.

Festival planning has encompassed the awaress to have all sorts of activities to reach the various ages, styles, and demands of our growing communities. A celebration of new food styles, non-popular sports, different music, art expressions and different beliefs and many other contributions of the New Comers to our Canadian Ways.

It is not only what our Society will learn of services provided by Governments and our Associations or the Private Sector, it is also the learning of what services our Society provides and offers to all their citizens, including entertainment, trade, networking, and a celebration of our comined values.The Langley's International Festival Society offers a distinct mandate to our Cities, and Neighbours which is the Celebration of our Natural Multicultural Society.
