This year we have a 'new' vision for the Parade of Nations - it will not look like any other parade that you may have seen before - we are talking a walking "Mardi Gras" kind of parade with music - a lot of noise - to create an excitement - to get the crowd (bystanders) to join in the parade and follow us into the park. To date we have the following participating:

  1. John Campbell - Parade Marshall
  2. RCMP
  3. City of Langley Firefighters
  4. First Nations
  5. City of Langley Council
  6. Township of Langley Council
  7. Mark Warawa
  8. Thailand Consulate
  9. Ukraine Consulate
  10. Malaysia (representative)
  11. People with Disabilities
  12. Baha'i
  13. Sri Lanka
  14. Scotland
  15. Kenya

The parade at 10:00 am on Park Avenue and go east along Douglas Crescent, north along 206 St. and lead into Douglas Park - up onto the stage where the Opening Ceremonies will take place from 10:30 -11:00 am.

Youth Zone

A place where youth are welcomed and a place that they can 'hang', meet existing friends, or make new friends. A Youth Zone/Place they can call their own. The Youth Chalet is to showcase that our youth are doing a lot of positive things within our community. This idea area highlights our youth as the leaders for tomorrow.

Given trust, our youth are very capable of taking on a project, taking on the responsibility, and have a lot of ideas, energy and enthusiasm to share. This builds character and leadership qualities while finding a balance between family, relationships, school, work and volunteering.

This year we are delighted in bringing a Youth Stage showcasing our multi-cultural and versatile youth in music, dance, song, and demonstrations.

Disability Pavilion

This is a brand new initiative for the Langley's International Festival. Since the festival promotes the understanding and appreciation of diversity and different cultures, and the basic premise is that people with disabilities are a culture onto themselves. Therefore what better way to accomplish these objectives then to showcase the culture of people with disabilities than to have a pavilion of their own?

Zosia Ettenberg, coordinator of this year's Marketplace, last year's Courage to Come Back Award winner and in a wheelchair herself, proposed the idea to the Festival Committee and Board who embraced it wholeheartedly.

What better way is there to learn about a disability than to experience it yourself? Please join us at the "TRY ON A DISABILITY" area and learn what it feels like to have that disability even for a short period of time. Get in a wheelchair and take a run through the wheelchair obstacle course. Meet the dogs that are learning to be assistance dogs. Find out about the many sports and leisure activities that can be adapted for people with challenges to do.

Listen to one (or all) of the 8 inspiring speakers scheduled throughout the day who are willing to share their story on how they live, work, play and even compete with their disabilities.

Talk to the various organizations represented and find out what they do to help people with disabilities, their families and their communities. Perhaps you can help you in some way?

Check out the unique self help devices along with the vehicles that can accommodate wheelchairs. Finally, meet those of us who have visible disabilities and learn that we are people first - just like you and that our disability is just something that we learn to live with.
