This year we are pleased to introduce an interactive, multi-cultural, educational and 'fun' time for the children. The Children's Chalet will keep the children entertained and busy while learning about other cultures. To recognize that even though we may be different we are all one. International Shows Pavilion

Parade of NationsThe Parade of Nations is a tradition that gives everyone the opportunity to showcase their heritage and culture. Most people are very proud to carry their flag from their country of origin.! This year we have a 'new' vision for the Parade of Nations - it will not look like any other parade that you may have seen before - we are talking a walking "Mardi Gras" kind of parade with music - a lot of noise - to create an excitement - to get the crowd (bystanders) to join in the parade and follow us into the park. To date we have the following participating:
The parade at 10:00 am on Park Avenue and go east along Douglas Crescent, north along 206 St. and lead into Douglas Park - up onto the stage where the Opening Ceremonies will take place from 10:30 -11:00 am. If you would like to participate and/or carry your flag from your country of origin, play music, make noise, have fun - please contact our Parade of Nations, Coordinator - Paula Clark - redhead6707@hotmail.com or call 778-908-9310 or 778-278-6183. Or contact Cleci Blauth , Assistant Coordinator, at blauthcw@yahoo.ca or 604-532-0989 or 604-307-5541. Seniors ChaletAn inaugural part of the festival for our senior's and pioneers to have a place of their own to quietly enjoy the main stage events throughout the day. The Langley Senior Recreation & Resource Centre supplies coffee, tea, cookies and tablecloths and makes this area a comfortable and shaded place for seniors to relax and enjoy the festival. You Gotta' Have Friends, Meals on Wheels, and the Langley Centre for Community Living all assist in the Senior's Chalet. Youth ZoneA place where youth are welcomed and a place that they can 'hang', meet existing friends, or make new friends. A Youth Zone/Place they can call their own. The Youth Chalet is to showcase that our youth are doing a lot of positive things within our community. This idea area highlights our youth as the leaders for tomorrow. Given trust, our youth are very capable of taking on a project, taking on the responsibility, and have a lot of ideas, energy and enthusiasm to share. This builds character and leadership qualities while finding a balance between family, relationships, school, work and volunteering. This year we are delighted in bringing a Youth Stage showcasing our multi-cultural and versatile youth in music, dance, song, and demonstrations. Carnival PavilionCome and have fun at the carnival full of games for all ages such as:
Come and play the game of chance and see what you win! » View the Carnival area map here Food Showcase - Iron ChefThis new initiative is to showcase our first Iron Chef Competition. The iron-chef competition demonstrates the multi-talented chefs creativity given a 'secret' black box of products and ingredients and how and what they can produce in a certain period of time. This should prove to be very interesting and educational for those interested in food and food preparation and the end result. The end result will be judged (TBA) and there is a prize for the winner! The chefs are Chef Brian Misko, Owner and Chef from the House of Q and Chef Robert Wentz Executive Chef Sonoma Grill from the Sonoma Grill LangleySponsored by: Well Seasoned - A gourmet food store » Read about the highlights from this past 2009 festival here Disability PavilionThis is a brand new initiative for the Langley's International Festival. Since the festival promotes the understanding and appreciation of diversity and different cultures, and the basic premise is that people with disabilities are a culture onto themselves. Therefore what better way to accomplish these objectives then to showcase the culture of people with disabilities than to have a pavilion of their own? Zosia Ettenberg, coordinator of this year's Marketplace, last year's Courage to Come Back Award winner and in a wheelchair herself, proposed the idea to the Festival Committee and Board who embraced it wholeheartedly. What better way is there to learn about a disability than to experience it yourself? Please join us at the "TRY ON A DISABILITY" area and learn what it feels like to have that disability even for a short period of time. Get in a wheelchair and take a run through the wheelchair obstacle course. Meet the dogs that are learning to be assistance dogs. Find out about the many sports and leisure activities that can be adapted for people with challenges to do. Listen to one (or all) of the 8 inspiring speakers scheduled throughout the day who are willing to share their story on how they live, work, play and even compete with their disabilities. Talk to the various organizations represented and find out what they do to help people with disabilities, their families and their communities. Perhaps you can help you in some way? Check out the unique self help devices along with the vehicles that can accommodate wheelchairs. Finally, meet those of us who have visible disabilities and learn that we are people first - just like you and that our disability is just something that we learn to live with.
